Jaap Dronkers

Jaap Dronkers has been International Research Professor in Educational Performance and Social Inequality at the University of Maastricht’s Research Centre for Education and the Labour Market, ROA, since 2009.
This Dutch sociologist began his career as a university professor as Head of Research in Education and Sociology at SISWO (1976-86). He went on to hold a number of positions at the Catholic University of Brabant and the University of Amsterdam.
From 2001 to 2009 he was Professor of Social Stratification and Inequality at the European University Institute, EUI, in Florence.
During his career, he has studied the causes and consequences of inequality in education including the changes in educational opportunities; the differences between public and religious schools; the results achieved by immigrant pupils from different origins, or the effect of parents divorcing on the results at school of their children, among other subjects.
